Abstract

This study aims to explore how Grice’s conversational maxims Quantity, Quality, Relation, and Manner are applied and occasionally adapted in a podcast discussion about time management. Using a qualitative analysis approach, real examples from the conversation were examined to identify how the speakers followed or intentionally flouted these principles. The findings show that the speakers generally observe the maxims by providing sufficient information, presenting truthful and relevant content, and speaking clearly, while occasionally adding extra details or shifting topics to enhance audience engagement. The results suggest that while following these conversational rules is essential, slight deviations can serve to make the communication more dynamic and relatable in informal settings like podcasts. The study includes additional materials, such as specific sentence examples and a data table, to further support the analysis and provide deeper insights into the application of these maxims.
